Last Thursday someone brought me a mom opossum who'd been hit by a car - she was still alive, but her injuries were so bad it would have been cruel to keep her alive. She did, however, have ten teeny babies in her pouch - 10 grams each (The Smidge, by comparison, was about 8 grams when she arrived). All ten are doing surprisingly well - those extra two grams mean I can get a tube into their bellies to feed them, and since they went straight from the pouch to the incubator they didn't get chilled like most orphan babies.
